I love oil paint. I have been forever enamored with the way I can layer it on the canvas. I love the way it lives and moves and breathe as its own entity. Wherever I go, where ever I am there is the paint. It is a love affair that has never ended as it is always evolving; I am never bored, always surprised, forever challenged. I am inspired by light and layers of colour in nature; the changeability in sameness that is altered by the elements. A moment of calm, a faraway place, a memory of a morning, an evening, a place that doesn’t yet exist, somewhere undiscovered. It is the residue of travel and the familiarity of place. What is engaging about these paintings is that through layers of colour they become emotional and ethereal landscapes. I use a glazing technique; layering the paint on in thin transparent layers onto the canvas which creates an illuminating and rich effect. Using the paint in this way allows me to create much colour in subtly. The dreamy paintings let you disappear into them and for a moment you are lost.
